Inter Regionals 2025
With the Regional Qualifiers next week, we currently have 10 teams entered. A few players are looking to form two more teams, so we’re seeking a few more players to join us and enter teams in both the Championship and Challenge competitions.
With 12 teams, everyone is guaranteed a spot in the competition. You’ll need to be available to travel from the afternoon of Friday, 12th September, until Monday, 15th September, to Weston-Super-Mare. During the Inter-Regionals, you’ll play seven games on Saturday and five on Sunday, making it a full-on Pétanque experience. The event will be held at a Holiday camp, previously at Pontins in Pakefield, but in 2025, we’re moving to Sand Bay in Weston-Super-Mare. The entry fee is around £170 per person for Half Board en suite accommodation, with single supplements applying. You will also need a full Pétanque England license.
The Qualifiers will still be held on Saturday, 10th May, and Saturday, 31st May, to determine the seedings, so you’ll need to be able to attend both days.
If you’d like to enter, please email richardbaker3@mac.com before Friday, 9th May.
EuroCup Update
The PE EuroCup is an annual competition to find the top four Club teams who then play off in a Final to decide who will represent England at the Confédération de Européenne Pétanque (CEP) EuroCup. The runner-up clubs in each semi-final compete in the PE Cup, and teams eliminated in rounds one and two compete for the Plate competition.
In rounds 1.2 and 3, the competition is a best of 5 games format with teams playing Open Triples, Mixed Triples, Mixed Doubles and 2 Open Doubles.
The Suffolk Coastal Region entered two teams in the 2024/25 seasons, Meadlands and Kettleburgh, who were drawn to play each other in the first round, which Kettleburgh won.
Meadlands are currently waiting to see who they will meet in the Plate competition, whilst Kettleburgh played Feering Bell from Eastern Region in Round two on 8th February.
In the Open Triples, Mat Conway, Phil Pearson and Baillie Inglis never looked to be troubled, winning 13-3
In the mixed triples, Deborah Bell, Martin Inglis and Richard Baker looked to have edged ahead after scoring a 5 to go 11-7 up, only for Feering to reply with a 4 the next end to level the game. Some excellent pointing from Kettleburgh saw them holding two for game, and despite a valiant effort, Feering were unable to change this with their last two boule.
In the open doubles Mat and Phil kept the pressure on their opponents to win 13-3, sealing the match for Kettleburgh.
Whilst in the mixed doubles, Deborah and Baillie displayed some good pointing and shooting to score two 5 point ends, running out 13-6 winners.
In the other open doubles, Martin Inglis and Richard Baker started slowly, going 0-9 down, and struggled to get on back on terms, losing 6-13.
A good 4-1 win against an experienced team, the next match will be against Bob Carter Center Pétanque Club, date to be arranged.
